“Path to Destruction”
- The Wild Bunch -
Drums roll as Pike Bishop and his gang head toward their final shoot out. Edited as a possessed man by Peckinpah, this scene nails the ending of the real West like none before or after. Allegedly more bullets were shot than during the entire Mexican revolution. It shows. This bloodbath really upped the ante as far as violent shootings go. It also inspired the likes of John Woo to use slo-mo in gun fights. This scene – shot in 1969 – is still as amazingly spectacular as it ever was.
